PILLING ST JOHN’S CE PRIMARY SCHOOL
5 October 2018
We are delighted with the positive response by everyone to attendance at Harvest Festival on Sunday 7 October at St John the Baptist church. The children will be taking an active role in the service. Gifts of fresh fruit and vegetables or tinned produce will be received during the service by our Coffee Feast Queen. Please do not bring gifts to school but do take to church on Sunday.
The service will be led by Rev Coral and will be a short family service (no communion) with refreshments such as sandwiches and cakes to be purchased afterwards. Rev Coral has requested that the children do not wear school uniform and we are happy to trial this on this occasion.
Huge thanks to Mr Mayland and Mr Phillpotts for constructing the steel fence in the yard over the last weekend; this erection will make playtimes and outdoor play much easier. Thank you also to the PCC for their donation of the fence.
This week in school
We have had a very busy week in school.
On Monday we were visited by the Fylde Ensemble who entertained the whole school for the afternoon with live band music. It was an uplifting afternoon which really opened our eyes to musical variance.
The Fire Brigade visited on Tuesday, the Lifeboat Service visited yesterday, and Dr Helen Lloyd visited the children to talk about her job as a medical professional today.
Silver Award for Young Wyre in Bloom
We were represented by our Head Girl (Lucy) and Head Boy (Tyler) at the presentation at Wyre Borough Civic Centre as they received the Silver Award. Well done to everyone for all their hard work in achieving the award which recognises everyone’s commitment to the school environment.
Speakers in School
If you, or a friend would like to come to talk to the children about your jobs or experiences (voluntary or otherwise) we would love to hear from you.
Welcome to Jade
We are delighted that Jade has joined us in Y5. She seems to have settled very well in school and we hope that both Jade and her family enjoy being part of the Pilling St John’s community.
Welcome to Mr Mayland
We are delighted to welcome Mr Mayland to the Governing Board. I am sure he will be an excellent asset to school development.
KS1 Multi skills
Well done to our KS1 Multi skills teams who represented school so well last week. Mr Marr and Mr Phillpotts were delighted with how well the children conducted themselves.
Mr Smith is unfortunately still unwell. We wish Mr Smith a continued recovery.
Mrs Bell is coming into school next Wednesday to create poppies to place around the village. Please continue to send in 2 litre plastic bottles as they will be using the bottom section to make the poppies.
Please remember Borwick has been swapped to 16 October. Let’s hope for good weather this time!

After School Club and Breakfast Club
Please remember that places must be booked and paid for in advance. We really do try very hard to accommodate working parents and where possible we try and find staff cover but in the interests of transparency need to let you know there will be times when requests cannot be met.
Miss Bell will be teaching recorders to Cedar Class after half term. Please could all children return to school with a labelled recorder for weekly lessons? We understand Aldi have a good offer on at the moment!
The children in Acorn Class are holding a cake sale on Friday 12th October at 3.30pm. Please come along, buy a cake and have a look at all the exciting events happening in Acorn; even if your child is in Y6!
Request for items
Mrs Hill is asking if families could look in their cupboards for any of the items listed as we would be able to make excellent use of them in school:
Metal kitchen ware, junk, plastic bowls and other baking items, empty hanging baskets.
PE and plasters
Please remember that plasters are not suitable to cover earrings please teach your children to remove their earrings before each PE lesson.
A huge thank you to Mr Hankinson for making the front of school look so lovely with the newly filled planters.
